In an inhospitable rural area in northwestern Argentina, the machismo, misery, and repression of the last military dictatorship frames the tragedy of Bumbún, the daughter of an alcoholic and violent axman who forces her to assume the identity of a man from birth. Her life will be torn between resigning herself to his destiny for her or fighting to change it.

Carmen Agüero Vera delivers a bravura performance as Bumbún in this most important film that tackles tough and highly emotional subject matters while emphasizing the importance of human freedom and of living as one’s true self.

With international festival play, El Bumbún presents an authentic and dramatic picture out of South America and despite it being fictional offers an insight into a time and difficult era of circumstance.

2014 / 86 minutes / Foreign Drama / Spanish with English subtitles / A film by Fernando Bermúdez
