An electrifying review of legendary singer-songwriter Chuck Berry, whose charisma and talents defined rock and roll and transcended both genre and color lines. “Brown Eyed Handsome Man” is a historic record of the continuing impact of the father of Rock ‘N Roll. Featuring the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Springsteen, Petty, Hendrix, Ronstadt and more.

Hosted and narrated by Danny Glover, screened at the Grammy Museum and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, broadcast on PBS as part of a pledge drive, the DVD version of the film includes a rarely seen 26 minute interview with Chuck from German television as a bonus.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chuck Berry agent Dick Alen said “This program does a terrific job of showcasing him live in concert throughout a variety of eras of his career, and it’s a wonderful tribute to see these fellow legends performing his songs. Seeing it all together really drives home how many artists he influenced and that rock & roll wouldn’t have been what it was if it wasn’t for Chuck Berry.”

In an interview with Billboard, Alen stated “Chuck never tried to influence anybody and he never tried to be a teacher. He just did his music his way, and people like Keith Richards and on and on heard his music. It was their inspiration.”

The track listing contained within the film reads like a map of Rock & Roll history and includes

  • Carol
  • Maybelline
  • Wee Wee Hours
  • You Can’t Catch Me
