“Sometimes the most compelling part of a show really is the man behind the curtain.” – Sara Lyons, Film Critic

Marionette Land is an intimate portrait and deep character study into the wonderful world of charismatic puppeteer Robert Brock and his magical marionette theatre. It is also a fantastical tale of theatre against the odds.

Robert Brock lives above the theatre with his mother and business partner, Mary Lou. From classic marionette shows for families (Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz) to grown-up shows where he straps on his heels to become famous Hollywood divas of the past, you never know what will happen next at the Lancaster Marionette Theatre.

But new personal and professional challenges emerge as Robert and Mary Lou struggle to keep the theatre open while preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Director Alexander Monelli paints a picture of the passionate, determined, and potentially quixotic Brock along the route.

Philadelphia Magazine calls Marionette Land “eccentric and charming.”

The film premiered at the Philadelphia Film Festival. It won for Best Documentary at the Omaha Film Festival.

The DVD features bonus material including a commentary track with Director Alexander Monelli and Star Robert Brock, a Q & A from the Philadelphia Film Festival and more.
