A triumphant final portrait of ruth weiss… Beat poet, jazz performer, writer and painter.

From Berlin and Vienna in the 1930s; from New York to Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s; ruth weiss, one of the great female Beat poets, has written, performed, painted, and filmed the fact that for her, ‘one more step west is the sea …’

Legendary Beat poet and jazz performer ruth weiss (deliberately lowercase) grew up in 1920s Vienna, escaped the Nazis in 1938, hung with Jack Kerouac in the 50s, and was still on stage on her 90th birthday in San Francisco.

Filmmaker Thomas Antonic accompanied the poetess during her last years, tracing her life as a grand collage that transcended the Beat.
