What depravities will men venture into for profit?

Emails from African Princes are just the beginning when two college kids in Cameroon, Kwesi and Niko, become entangled in the ruthless world of digital deception and internet theft.

Niko needs beaucoup d’argent (a lot of money) for Dengue* fever treatments to save his mom’s life. Under the wing of a local crime boss, the young are thrust into West Africa’s dark web and its soul-scathing temptations.

Filmed in West Africa, Scam Republique was an OFFICIAL SELECTION at both The Hip Hop Film Festival and the Queens Underground International Film Festival.

*Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. Symptoms typically begin three to fourteen days after infection. These may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash.

“Highlighted by hyperviolent scenes, a pulsating soundtrack of regional music that plays like a blend of reggae and hip-hop meets electronica from outer space and natural performances by a cast of non-professionals, Scam Republique is about as exotic thriller as one is likely to encounter.” – I. Slifkin, Film Critic

2018 / 49 minutes / Color / English language / A film by Marco Matheus (Soroche) and Ferdinand Sylvere Engo
