“Nightclubbing” is the first ever documentary about the renowned New York City nightclub Max’s Kansas City (1965-1981) which had an indelible impact on the world of music, fashion, art, culture and the creation of the New York City Punk Rock scene.
From its original launch through its changes in ownership to the final scandal that forced its closure, the film additionally explores the heated rivalry that existed between Max’s and CBGB’s and how the two clubs represented different perspectives on the NYC punk phenomena.
Max’s was not just a punk scene location, it became a nightclub home for Andy Warhol, and the number of deals cut in the club’s back room reads like a bible of the who’s who of the era.
